Abstract
A method is described for simplifying the construction of high‐resolution imaging transducers by using impedance matching transformers on a monolithic plate structure. Simple physical arguments are used to establish the general design criterion that a broad frequency response leads to a wide angular response and high resolution. This conclusion is verified by numerically computed performance curves for a particular air‐backed transducer structure. Keywords
