Abstract
An experimental study of the fluctuations of a millimeter-wave transient Rydberg-atom maser is presented. The photon-number probability distribution is shown to evolve in time from a Bose-Einstein to a bell-shaped distribution. The experiment is a quantitative check of single-mode superradiance theory. Keywords
