Pathophysiology of Peyronie's disease

Abstract
Peyronie's disease is an inflammatory condition characterized by the formation of fibrous, noncompliant nodules in the tunica albuginea which can impede tunical expansion during penile erection, leading to deformity and bending. While the cause of this disease is thought to be due to microvascular trauma and abnormal wound healing, other hypotheses include genetic predisposition. In this review the pathophysiology of Peyronie's disease is discussed as well as current hypothese regarding its origin.Keywords
