Abstract
We have calculated the photodisintegration of the deuteron in the medium energy range using the Gartenhaus wave function for the deuteron and the Gartenhaus plus spin-orbit wave functions for the final states. The results are in good agreement with experiment. It is shown that the cross sections are sensitive to the triplet odd scattering phase shifts and the -state probability, but rather insensitive to the detailed shapes of the wave functions. The results indicate that it is not necessary to relinquish Siegert's theorem in order to explain the large isotropic term in the angular distribution in this energy region, provided one assumes a rather high percentage of state (7%) for the ground state of the deuteron.
