The Metabolism of 3H-Labelled Estrone by the Isolated Perfused Liver of the Rabbit, Chicken, and Guinea Pig

Abstract
Isolated livers of rabbits, chickens, and guinea pigs were perfused with whole blood containing tritiated estrone in order to examine the metabolites of this estrogen formed by the liver and released into the blood. The major metabolite found in the blood was estradiol-3-glucuronide-17α-N-acetyl-glucosaminide in the rabbit although some monoglucuronide was formed. The monoglucuronides of estrone and 17β-estradiol were the major metabolites in the guinea pig. In the chicken the 17-monosulfate and the disuifate of 17β-estradiol were present in approximately equal quantities. Glucuronides were also identified. The estrogen metabolites formed by the perfused liver were similar to those found in the excretory products of the intact animals.
