Does the Leaf Morphology of Some Plants Mimic Caterpillar Damage?

Abstract
We hypothesize that the irregular leaf shape of some Moraceae plants mimics feeding damage and earlier colonization by herbivores. Such feeding-damage mimicry can function as a potential anti-herbivory adaptation if visually searching herbivores avoid host plants colonized earlier or if mimic leaves attract predators and parasitoids that prey on herbivores attacking these plants.
