Abstract
[long dash]Intraven. injection of crotalin into shoats, to test the popular belief that swine are immune to snake venom, produced the characteristic fall in blood pressure, decided increase in volume of erythrocytes, and death; post-mortem observations closely resembled those in other susceptible animals. While the thick layer of subcut. fat usually present in swine may prevent rapid absorption of venom and acute poisoning after snakebite, swine are no more resistant than other animals to rattlesnake venom.
