Abstract
The energy results of an accurate configuration-interaction calculation of the ground state of C are reported. Special emphasis is placed on the quantitative assessment of all sources of truncation errors. In this way, the nonrelativistic energy is estimated to be -37.8436 ± 0.0015 a.u. (C), in agreement with previous estimates obtained by different methods. Nesbet's calculation is interpreted in the light of the present results. Keywords
