STUDY OF A BACTERIOPHAGE INFECTING THE MYXOBACTERIUMCHONDROCOCCUS COLUMNARIS

Abstract
A bacteriophage infecting the myxo-bacterial fish pathogen Chondrococcus columnaris was isolated and studied. An electron micrograph reveals that the phage particle is about 80 [mu] in diameter. A plaque-count technique was developed which gives reasonably accurate results. The plaques average 0.8 mm in diameter. From one-step growth experiments the latent period was determined to be about 90 minutes and the rise period to be approximately 30 minutes. The burst size averaged at least 97 particles/cell.
