Abstract

The O2 consumption of heart, liver, kidney, testes, spleen, lung and Jensen sarcomas of rats was detd. before and after freezing the tissues for 3 hrs. with liquid air. The Barcroft-Warburg apparatus was used. Freezing greatly decreased the O2 uptake of tissues, while succinic acid increased the O2 uptake. The following scheme for the succinic acid dehydrogenation of the respiration system is suggested [image] Szent-Gyorgyi''s theory of tissue respiration did not explain all the changes observed.
