Abstract
Summary We have reported our experience in the treatment of 24 cases of cerebral paragonimiasis with bithionol, summarizing two illustrative cases. Cure of the concomitant pulmonary infection was obtained in 22 of 24 cases. Bithionol was effective in acute phases of cerebral paragonimiasis, this being evidenced by ophthalmologic and meningeal signs. The drug was not effective in chronic stabilized cases. For maximum clinical improvement, repeated therapy was needed in three cases. One case of hepatitis caused by bithionol is reported. However, over-all toxicity of bithionol was minimal.
