Metabolism of steroids

Abstract

The series of 6 possible acids obtainable by the oxidation to carbonyl of 1 or 2 secondary hydroxyl groups in natural cholic acid has been completed by the preparation of 12-hydroxy-3:7-diketo-cholanic acid. New derivatives of this acid, of 3:12-dihydroxy-7-keto, 7:12-dihydroxy-3-keto-, and 3-hydroxy-7:12-diketo-cholanic acids are described; methods for obtaining such substances were further explored.
