Abstract
The 1st reported case of M. shawi being infected by L. major was reported. The parasite was observed in 2 of 28 Meriones captured in the immediate vicinity of the Tata administrative center (South Morocco). M. shawi, because it is sub-commersal with man and abundant, may be one of the reservoirs of human cutaneous leishmaniasis in this area.
