Efficiency of commercial cereal seed treatment

Abstract
Samples of treated cereal seed from 59 seed stores throughout New Zealand were tested by means of a bioassay for fungicide load and uniformity of treatment. Most samples treated by conventional bucket and auger slurry treaters did not reach the recommended fungicide load of 75–100 g/100 kg seed, and were unevenly covered. Samples treated by the ‘Mist-o-matic’ process were evenly treated with the correct fungicide load. Most seed treating machines in use in New Zealand are considered unsuitable for use with modern fungicides.Keywords
