Abstract
An analysis of rotationally inelastic collisions is made in a two-dimensional model. It is assumed that the target is a hard-core ellipsoid, and the properties of the deflection functions and the forbidden transitions are investigated. The existence of the rainbow is predicted and the estimate of the rainbow angle is given. The rules for the forbidden transitions, arising from the geometry of the target, are also discussed. Keywords
