Abstract
C. eupunctata* (p.334), Up, Devonian near Ithaca, New York, is the 2d sp. of this genus to be descr. from American strata. The distinguishing characteristics of this fossil stem include: a small mixed pith, discontinuous ring of primary xylem, all primary xylem centrally mesarcn, pitying on both radial and tangential walls of secondary xylem tracheids, branched tracheids, terminal parenchyma, distinct growth rings with summer wood tracheids radially narrower and with thicker walls than the spring wood tracheids, and leaf traces with a single bundle of primary xylem near the pith becoming double as it proceeds out through the secondary xylem.
