Studies of non-linear phenomena

Abstract
A theory of the state of polarization of stimulated Raman emission from a bulk medium is developed. Quantitative expressions are derived which describe the polarization characteristics of the scattered radiation for the cases of (a) linearly polarized incident light and (b) elliptically polarized incident light. It is shown that in general, because of the spatial growth or amplification process, the polarization of stimulated scattering is different from that of normal Raman scattering. An appendix treats the ellipticity of spontaneous Raman scattered radiation.
