Abstract
The elastic energies of prismatic dislocation loops have been calculated as a continuous function of shape from equilateral triangle to hexagon. A smooth decrease in energy is found in this sequence; a relatively rapid change is associated with truncation of the triangle corners. The results are compared with previous calculations for other geometric shapes. The effect of a stacking fault in the loop plane is also considered.Keywords
