Abstract
The free-free absorption coefficient of the negative ions of molecular hydrogen is calculated in the dipole-length formulation using wavefunctions determined by the two-centre close-coupling expansion method and including both exchange and polarisation effects. The results are in fair agreement with the most recent calculations for this process, and are the most sophisticated calculations yet performed. Keywords
