Abstract
A man who accidentally ingested 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) exhibited fibrillary twitching and paralysis of intercostal muscles. There was evidence of generalized skeletal muscle damage as indicated by marked elevation of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase, lactic dehydrogenase, aldolase, and creatine phosphokinase levels. In addition to hemoglobinuria, myoglobinuria (to our knowledge, previously unreported in this condition) was observed.
