Urological complications of endemic schistosomiasis in schoolchildren Part 4. As modified by treatment

Abstract
Urological abnormalities due to infection with S. haematobium were common in the pupils at Donge school, Zanzibar, Tanzania, in June 1964. Infected pupils were treated with stibocaptate and re-examined at the end of 1966 to assess the effect of treatment. There was a satisfactory reduction in urinary egg outputs and many parasitological cures, together with a significant reduction in prevalence of urological abnormalities. Results would almost certainly have been better if very young children of pre-school age had also been treated.
