The Problem of “Dormancy” in Bacterial Spores

Abstract
Dormancy in bacterial spores is due to the presence of substances in media inhibitory to spore germination. The effects of some such substances can be minimized by addition of 0.1% soluble starch to the medium. The starch immobilizes the inhibitors through adsorbtion.Keywords
