Abstract
Evidence was presented that passive cutaneous anaphylaxis [PCA] induced with rabbit hyperimmune antibody in the guinea pig can be partially inhibited by rendering the animals leukopenic. It was postulated that there are at least 2 types of PCA reactions in the guinea pig. An Arthus-like reaction, induced with hyperimmune ([gamma] 2) antibody, mediated in part by polymorphonuclear-leukocyte lysosomes and a "true" anaphylactic reaction induced by homologous anaphylactic ([gamma]1) antibody, mediated primarily by histamine released from mast cells.
