Hydrocarbons in pyrethrum cuticle wax

Abstract
Some resolution was accomplished in a homologous series of paraffin hydrocarbons, by chromatography on Norit A carbon black. The degree of resolution is expressed in molec-ular-weight-distribution data. Contrary to prior reports, all of the normal paraffins (instead of odd-numbered ones only) were found in pyrethrum wax, and also in a sample of string bean wax. In the former case all members of the series from C24 to C36 were found, but higher members might be present. A mechanism is proposed to account for the presence of the even-numbered paraffins.
