THE INFLUENCE OF ADRENAL CORTEX EXTRACT ON THE RESISTANCE TO CERTAIN INFECTIONS AND INTOXICATIONS*

Abstract
Three types of intoxication or infection were used: diphtheria toxin in guinea pigs, Trypanosoma equiperdum in rats, and Pneumococcus in mice. 12-24 animals in each expt. were injected with the test substance, and then half of each group received saline and half adrenal cortex extract at 8 hr. intervals. The cortin did not protect against diphtheria toxin, and did not prolong the life of rats infected with T. equiperdum nor of mice infected with Pneumococcus.
