Low-Frequency Fundamentals of Some Metal Carbonyls

Abstract
The carbon‐metal‐carbon bending fundamentals of several metal carbonyls have been determined by the analysis of their combinations with the carbonyl stretching frequencies near 5 μ and by direct observation in the far infrared (60–120 cm—1). The following vapor‐phase frequencies were obtained (in cm—1): Fe(CO)5: 104 (A2″), 114 and ∼68 (E′), 95 (E″); Ni(CO)4: 74 (F2), 68 (E); Cr(CO)6: 98 (F1u), 90 (F2g); Mo(CO)6: 81 (F1u), 81 (F2g); W(CO)6: 81 (F1u), 83 (F2g).
