Abstract
Measurements of the temperature dependence of internal friction in a number of ferromagnets and antiferromagnets were carried out. In ferromagnetic alloys (Invars) and antiferromagnets (MnO etc.), which have a large spontaneous deformation of the crystalline lattice near the Curie point, sharp peaks of the internal friction were found. The thermodynamical theory of second order phase transitions is used to interpret this phenomenon. Keywords
