Emission Band Spectra of Nitrogen. The Fifth Positive System

Abstract

19 bands of the fifth positive system of nitrogen have been photographed in the second and third orders of a 21‐foot grating spectrograph. Vibrational and rotational analyses gave the following results: (1) $x^1{\Sigma }_g^{-}\hspace{0.17em}\mathrm{state}{\mathrm{:\hspace{0.17em}B}}_e\text{=1.750}$ , ${\alpha }_e\text{=0.0225}$ , $D_e{\text{=6×10}}^{\text{−6}}$ , $T_e{\mathrm{=a}}^{\prime }\text{+45284.7}$ , ${\omega }_e\text{=1910}$ , ${\omega }_e{x}_e\text{=20.7}$ , $r_e\text{=1.168\hspace{0.17em}}\mathrm{A}{\text{.\hspace{0.17em}(2)\hspace{0.17em}a}}^{\text{′1}}{\Sigma }_u^{-}\hspace{0.17em}\mathrm{state}{\mathrm{:\hspace{0.17em}B}}_e\text{=1.480}$ , ${\alpha }_e\text{=0.0164}$ , $D_e{\text{=6×10}}^{\text{−6}}$ , $T_e{\mathrm{=a}}^{\prime }$ , ${\omega }_e\text{=1530}$ , ${\omega }_e{x}_e\text{=12.0}$ , ${\omega }_e{y}_e\text{=0.033}$ , $r_e\text{=1.270}$ A. An anomalous intensity distribution in the v′=0 bands was observed.
