Abstract
The course of recent research is outlined, and state-of-the-art protocols are surveyed. The various classes of access protocols and corresponding performance models are covered. These are fixed assignment access, random-assignment access, demand assignment access, integrated local area networks, and multichannel local area networks. Keywords
