Under the assumption of negligible natural selection and mutation, the effect of demographic facts on human evolution (through random genetic drift and admixture) is determinable. Calculation of theoretical rates of evolution over many generations would afford an estimate independent of those based on the fossil record or on changing frequencies of characters in contemporary and recent peoples.
