Macroamylasemia — Survey of Prevalence in a Mixed Population

Abstract
IDENTIFICATION of macroamylasemia1 has up to now been confined to patients with hyperamylasemia. The possibility that macroamylasemia exists in asymptomatic subjects and in persons with normal serum amylase levels has not been explored. This report represents the results of a limited survey of a varied population using a simple chromatographic method that permits macroamylasemia to be identified even though total serum amylase activity is within normal limits.2 MaterialSerum samples were obtained from 891 persons.
