Abstract
A method for the solubilization and fractionation of pig-heart particles for the isolation of cytochrome oxidase is described. Analysis of five preparations for iron and copper has shown an almost 11 ratio, although this ratio was occasionally 1:2. The spectra of the pyridine haemochromogens obtainable from the preparation are described. The spectral properties of the preparation alone, and in combination with ligands, are described. The spectrum obtained on mixing oxygen with the reduced preparation in the presence of an excess of dithionite is described.
