Acrylamide Gel Electrophoretic Studies of Extracellular Sucrose-Metabolizing Enzymes of Streptococcus mutans

Abstract
Acrylamide gel electrophoretic methods were used to assess the numbers and types of sucrose-metabolizing enzymes elaborated by Streptococcus mutans strains HS-6, SL-1, FA-1, and NCTC 10449. Two types of polysaccharide-synthesizing enzymes and one invertaselike enzyme were distinguished. The patterns of extracellular proteins and enzymes were distinctive for each strain.
