FURTHER STUDIES ON A GLYCERIN EXTRACT OF ADRENAL CORTEX POTENT BY MOUTH*†

Abstract
Nine schizophrenic patients treated during 3 periods (13, 9, 5 wks. resp., with intervening rest periods of 7 wks.) with glycerin extract of adrenal cortex showed (1) increases of systolic blood pressure averaging 34, 24, 22 mm. Hg. resp. during 3 medication periods, and slight residual pressor effect maintained during rest; (2) increased diastolic pressure by 20, 11, 20 mm. Hg.; (3) increased cardio-vascular reactivity to environment, change of posture and exercise during medication; (4) significant increase of body weight and sp. gr. of urine; (5) significant decrease of pulse rate and blood cholesterol level. Dosage varied from 2 to 30 gm. daily. Glycerin extract of adrenal cortex is a potent medicament for elevation of blood pressure and increasing cardio-vascular reactivity.
