Abstract
The authors describe the behavior of eels having undergone hypophysectomy during successive passages from fresh water to salt water. The treated animals behaved absolutely like the test animals and survived even in a water of which salinity increased gradually to the concn-corresponding to A= -4[degree]C. Hypophysis is thus not an indispensable element to the mechanism allowing euryhalinity.
