Factor Analyzing a Scale of Assertiveness

Abstract
A concern is raised about the current use of factor analytic procedures in the field of assertiveness research. Frequently it is difficult, if not impossible, to suitably evaluate, compare, and replicate factor analytic studies of assertiveness because of the incomplete reporting and/or inappropriate use of factor analytic procedures. Factor analysis of an assertiveness scale in the present study is proposed as a model of such procedure for similar research in the future. Four factors of assertiveness are identified, and implications for the role of factor analysis in construction of assertiveness scales are discussed.
