The Electronic Structure ofO2

Abstract

The magnetic hyperfine structure parameters which have been evaluated from an analysis of the spectrum of ${\mathrm{O}}^{16}$ ${\mathrm{O}}^{17}$ are used to obtain information on the electronic structure of ${\mathrm{O}}_2$. These values show that the unpaired electrons are primarily in $p\pi$ orbits but have approximately 2.5 percent $s$ character.
