Incorporation of Manganese into Duck Erythrocytes.

Abstract
Duck erythrocytes in vitro reversibly take up labeled Mn added to blood. The uptake is mainly ascribable to reticulocytes. Intravenously-administered Mn appears in the cells as a function of the uptake observed in vitro and of incorporation in bone marrow. Mn taken up by the cells in vivo but not in vitro is recoverable to some extent in association with heme. This recovery supports the hypothesis that erythrocyte Mn in part is present as a porphyrin complex.
