Study of Atypical Enteric Organisms of the Shigella Group

Abstract
Isolation of an atypical strain of Shigella-like microorganism from 116 fecal specimens obtained from cases of dysentery, contacts, and food handlers occurred with such frequency as to draw attention to their possible importance as specific in-citants of enteric disease. Biochemically these organisms resemble S. paradysenteriae Flexner. Antigenically they are distinct and apparently belong to a homologous group but are not related to any of the well-recognized types of Shigella.
