Bromocriptine Treatment of Pituitary Adenomas

Abstract
Increasing evidence suggests that bromocriptine (2-bromo-alpha-ergocryptine), which can be used to restore normal serum prolactin levels in patients with prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas, may have a direct antitumor effect on certain pituitary adenomas. We review briefly the medical, endocrinological, and neurosurgical studies reporting the efficacy of bromocriptine in the treatment of pituitary endocrinopathies, as well as studies that suggest an antitumor effect.
