Abstract
A linear theory of coupled heat and moisture is adopted to analyze the transient responses in an infinitely long annular cylinder subjected to hygrothermal loadings. A closed-form solution of temperature, moisture, and stresses, obtained by utilizing the decoupling technique and method of separation of variables, is presented, and the coupling effect between heat and moisture on the temperature, moisture, displacements, and stresses is discussed. We found that the coupling effect is significant for composite material T300/5208. The maximum discrepancy between coupled and uncoupled solutions might be as high as 50%.Keywords
