Abstract
The Kohn-Feshbach variational method in scattering is simplified such that the most difficult integrals one encounters are completely avoided. This greatly enhances the feasibility of the variational method in multichannel problems. Two model calculations are presented to illustrate this method. Excellent triplet -wave phase shifts are obtained for electron-hydrogen elastic scattering.
