Acute Effects of Guanethidine on Myocardial Contractility and Catecholamine Levels.

Abstract
Dog studies indicate that guanethidine causes acute myocardial stimulation. The agent significantly decreases the concentration of norepinephrine in cardiac and aortic tissues of dogs; however, plasma levels of catecholamines are not altered during the acute stimulation. Isolated rabbit hearts, display myocardial stimulation and release norepinephrine when injected with this agent.
