Abstract
A 12-yr-old girl with congenital dyserythropoietic anemia type I was diagnosed as having hemochromatosis. Deferoxamine was given s.c. for 14 mo. Fe overload, as measured by liver Fe and serum ferritin levels, was reduced substantially, liver function tests improved, and hepatomegaly decreased. Toxicity was negligible.
