PLASMA CREATININE CONCENTRATION AND CREATININE CLEARANCE IN CLINICAL WORK

Abstract
The authors sum up 8 years experiences with endogenous creatinine clearance and discuss methods for estimation of creatinine. Normal total "Jaffe-positive substances" in plasma almost never exceed 1.30 mg/ 100 ml. There is a close correlation between increased plasma value and decreased renal function. Determination of "endo-genous creatinine clearance" gives no more information than the plasma concentration alone, which can be seen from the fact that the product of the plasma creatinine concentration (in mg/ 100 ml) and the creatinine clearance (in ml/minute) is quite constant and rarely will be found very far from 100, i.e., the average normal creatinine clearance value.
