Abstract
D. desulfuricans strain "Hildenborough" utilized sulfite, thio-sulfate, tetrathionate, metasulfite or dithionate in place of sulfate for growth. Elementary S was not attacked, but colloidal S permitted slow growth. The mechanism of sulfate reduction is discussed. Keywords
