A specimen of Metasequoia was found in China in 1946, and since then over 100 large trees have been found. The sp. extends into adjacent parts of Hupeh Prov. from the vicinity of Wan-hsien. A large supply of seeds from these trees is now available. The tree is deciduous. In its vegetative- characters it suggests Glyptostrobus and Taxodium.
