A Dynamic Mass Spectrometer for the Study of Laser-Produced Plasmas

Abstract
A method of multichannel analysis of ions blown off laser‐produced plasma is described. The ions are analyzed in a time‐of‐flight tube followed by a dynamic, capacitorlike, analyzer. This combination enables one to determine simultaneously the relative yield and energy distribution of all the ions created in one laser shot. Design considerations are presented together with some typical experimental results. The spectrometer is currently being used for the diagnostics of laser‐produced plasmas.
