The Aircast Walking Brace versus conventional casting methods. A comparison study

Abstract
The authors studied patients who were immobilized following surgery or lower extremity trauma in either Aircast walking braces or fiberglass casts. Results over a 2-year period have shown a significantly diminished incidence of lower extremity atrophy and osteoporosis in patients using air braces as compared to those using fiberglass casts. Subjective patient comfort and acceptibility studies were also favorable for the air brace. Physical therapy visits were also decreased for the air brace group when compared to the patients wearing fiberglass casts.
