Abstract
The avg. daily homogentisic acid excretion in the urine of a 38 yr. old alcaptonuric fed a daily diet of 50 g. protein, 92 g. fat and 362 g. carbohydrate (2549 cal.) was 4.78 g. The patient converted 4-5 g. of l-phenylalanine or l-tyrosine quantitatively into homogentisic acid. The conversion of similar amts. of d-phenylal-anine and dl-tyrosino were only 40-45% and 6-8% complete, respectively. After ingesting d-phenylalanine, the patient also excreted phenylpyruvic acid. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
